AGV Power Systems: Why Onboard DC-DC Conversion Keeps Warehouse Operations Running?

2026-06-05
In a modern warehouse, an AGV that stops mid-route for a charging pit stop costs money every minute it's not moving. The trend toward continuous fleet operation demands efficient, reliable onboard power — and that starts with how you regulate voltage from the battery bus to the control electronics.

AGV fleets typically run on 24V or 48V lithium battery packs. But onboard controllers, LiDAR sensors, safety scanners, and wireless communication modules all need clean, stable 24V or lower voltages. Using the raw battery voltage directly causes controller resets during load transients — like when the AGV starts lifting a load or accelerates suddenly. The battery bus can swing from 21V to 58V depending on state of charge and load — far outside what sensitive electronics tolerate.

Why 48V AGV Systems Need Wide-Input Converters

A 48V lithium battery at full charge sits at 58V. At low charge, it drops to 36V. A converter that only handles 48V ±10% will shut down before the battery is truly empty. The MDA100-48S24's 36–72V input range covers the full operating envelope without derating.

Isolation for Safety and Signal Integrity

Onboard electronics sit next to high-current motor drivers and braking circuits. Without isolation, motor transients inject noise into the controller and sensor power rails, causing unreliable operation and unpredictable resets. The 1500VDC isolation barrier in the MDA100-48S24 solves this.

Compact for Space-Constrained Enclosures

AGV control boxes are packed tight. The MDA100-48S24's 116.4 × 65 × 22 mm form factor fits standard DIN rail or board-level mounting inside compact enclosures.
